New Design School Accepts a Gift-Acquisition of Nerdies to Offer New Cutting-Edge Learning for Kids 6 to15.
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (Feb. 13, 2017) – New Design School announced today it has acquired Nerdies, an educational company that promotes learning in science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM).
New Design School was gifted Nerdies by Brad Harvey, who founded the program in 2013.
Nerdies offers non-traditional learning opportunities for kids ages 6 to 15 in the areas of coding to digital arts and the driving passion for all things nerd.
The partnership will provide an opportunity for students in Northwest Arkansas to be mentored by local professionals while connecting with peers who have similar interests,” said New Design School Executive Director David Kersey.
“Bringing together Nerdies K through 8 programming with New Design School’s adult focused seminars creates a strategy for long-term success of the school,” Kersey said.
“I’m excited about the opportunity to reach a wider audience of kids by gifting Nerdies to New Design School,” Harvey said. “This creates an exciting opportunity for Nerdies to raise support for low-income and disenfranchised kids interested in cutting-edge learning by engaging corporate sponsors and donors for scholarship funds.”
Nerdies unique approach to helping students find their dream career fits perfectly with the New Design School model, which focuses on closing the gap between real-world experience and education.
“We believe that the best way to learn is to participate,” said Sonia Gutiérrez, New Design School Founder. “An education on design theory should be balanced with technical skill building, creativity development, and business training.”
